My love, my stars, my moon and sun

Oh gaudy, brazen sun
what right claim you to brilliant day
for you stole his warmth now cold he lay

Oh temperamental, boastful moon
what right claim you to the night
for from my love you stole your light

Oh trickster, garish stars
what right claim you to the skies
you stole thy twinkle from my love’s eyes

Oh impatient, hurried time
what right claim you to end the race
when each beat of his heart did set your pace

Oh cruel, beauteous nature
what right claim you to life and death
for it was his spirit that gave you breath

Oh sultry, temptress love
what right claim you to happy ever after
when from his breath you stole life’s laughter

Oh Father, Son and Holy Ghost
what right claim you to Heaven’s bliss
when from my lips you stole his kiss

Oh love, my stars, my moon and sun
what right claim you to lofty flight
to watch me lost in endless night

  1. I read this while cuddled in a warm blanket, looking at the snow, and sipping my coffee. I can’t imagine a more perfect way to read this beautifully haunting poem! (I may or may not have huddled into my blanket more…) ❤ it!

    1. I seem to write about loss a lot, in waves, not sure why. I think Valentine’s Day had me thinking about lost love. It can be so sudden, no chances to say goodbye and we are left just holding the pieces wondering how the sun can still rise or the stars still shine. Time heals but we never forget. Thanks for your beautiful comment. Just your two sentences were poetry to my ears ❤

      1. I totally understand that, I have waves like that. Sometimes my heart needs to write about it’s darkness, sometimes it’s losses, sometimes it’s passion or love or compassion for someone. It all comes & goes just as the tide changes with the rising & falling of the moon.

  2. Beautiful 🙂 I was taken back to the days in Senior year when I lived for Shakespeare and daunting, love and anguished felt prose. Thank you for that. Thank you for reminding me of that wonderful time. I may pull out my complete annotated works of Shakespeare sometime today. ❤
