Presence

I set forth on my journey years ago
when just a wee lass
Sails billowing, as if boasting
when the winds swept mighty against my back

But oft times, the saddest times,
I sat alone, sails silent and still
Like a lover’s heart freshy broken

And rocking to and fro
lulled into uneasy slumber
Salty tears do rouse me
from a moment’s glimplse into paradise
where my sweet mother’s arms
did rock me

Why this deadly calm
My journey and fate now stalled
What has this lass done
to prove so disfavored by the gods?

I heard a voice, no, a whisper it was
Child, are you not where you once set off to be?
Was it not you who cried to the skies
If I could just reach my destination
make it that far
the world would be mine
to hold in my humble hands

Yet, now with the world before you
You reach not for it
your eyes cast only toward the now wilted sails
waiting impatiently on a wish and a breeze

Will you feel differently
when you befall your next intention?
You were once certain that this very place
was where your young heart was to bide

Will your life be filled
reaching destinations
or with the wisdom of your surroundngs?
Will you embrace the knowledge each path imparts?

For if there is no awareness in your heart
No happy sight from your eyes
No desire to be still
to behold true beauty
There shall never be contentment
Your blind and restless spirit
will ne’er know prayerful peace

So breathe ye softly
You are not adrift
You are not alone
You are where you set sail to be
those many moons ago

There is no moving forward
by a wish or jester’s spell
For the wind is as fickle
as a young lassie’s heart
Both can fill with no warning
and be moved too far
too quickly

You need only know
this is where you are meant to be
In this time
in this moment
in this realm

So shame yourself not
for disfavor from the gods
Your shame lies
not knowing you’ve arrived

Count your blessings
Be grateful to that which surrounds you
Your soul did manifest this place
Hold it dear

Your sails will fill again
You will follow the sun
Further destinations await your foot falls

Go now to the shore
Sleep beneath the heavens
and count each twinkling star
as a blessing sent

It is there
in the wisdom of Creation
your path will appear
and steer you, child,
to where your heart
will rest yet again

Drink it in
Replenish your spirit
Appreciate
not only the journey
but your presence in Grace

Remember lassie
embrace that which drew your heart here
For in your haste to merely arrive
You may well sail fast
beyond the glorious symphony of angels
beckoning you to behold
the sweet smell of heather
in all its purple-hued majesty
adorning the very gates
of Heaven itself

My love, my stars, my moon and sun

Oh gaudy, brazen sun
what right claim you to brilliant day
for you stole his warmth now cold he lay

Oh temperamental, boastful moon
what right claim you to the night
for from my love you stole your light

Oh trickster, garish stars
what right claim you to the skies
you stole thy twinkle from my love’s eyes

Oh impatient, hurried time
what right claim you to end the race
when each beat of his heart did set your pace

Oh cruel, beauteous nature
what right claim you to life and death
for it was his spirit that gave you breath

Oh sultry, temptress love
what right claim you to happy ever after
when from his breath you stole life’s laughter

Oh Father, Son and Holy Ghost
what right claim you to Heaven’s bliss
when from my lips you stole his kiss

Oh love, my stars, my moon and sun
what right claim you to lofty flight
to watch me lost in endless night
